NATALIE VS JOSH AND JULIA
Natalie smiled. Then she laughed. A clear, ringing laugh.
There was a guy who liked her. Let's call him Josh, shall we?
Josh really liked her. He liked her sharp humor, sass, call-a-spade-a-spade attitude; it turned him on and she knew it.
However, Josh had a girlfriend. Let's call her Julia.
Natalie didn't even know Julia. She was Josh's friend. Period.
And Julia was hugely jealous of Natalie. Natalie made no advances on Josh, kept her distance, and tbh, considered Julia a little stupid.
And Natalie didn't like stupidity, on an obsessive level. Natalie's biggest fear was to end up in a situation feeling mediocre, dumb, tongue-tied and she chased knowledge relentlessly. She also wondered how a guy like Josh had developed feelings for Julia.
Once upon a time, Natalie had had a huge crush on Josh. I-can't-do-anything-because-I'm-thinking-of-him-24/7 sort of crush. It was then that she had distanced herself from him. But life had brought Josh back and this time, she didn't avoid him. She was more in control of her feelings.
Natalie understood how Julia could dislike her inspite of never having actually spoken to her. Guys had that effect on you. If you liked him, you'd despise any girl he was into.
And Natalie was wise enough to stay away from both Josh and Julia. She didn't need Julia's jealous vibe.
Oh well, she thought to herself. She'd see how long it would be before Josh understood that he didn't belong with Julia.
None of Natalie's business. She would continue to rise. She was too glam to be thinking about unavailable men and she would dismiss both Josh and Julia. Someone more special was probably out there, waiting for her.
