STAY ANYWAY: THE MAGIC OF STABILITY

I think it was moments after he told her,

That what they had between them wasn't working out,

Her eyes read the words on her phone screen,

The message slowly made its way into her suddenly numb brain,

She gradually keeps the phone down,

And shuts the drawer,

And then opens the drawer again,

To confirm she's not hallucinating, 

She reads the words on her phone,

And this time when she puts the phone down,

Her hands are shaking slightly,

She swallows calmly to push down the slow nausea building up within her,

It feels like someone is pressing upon her chest really hard,

She goes to the other room and takes a book and sits down on the bed,

The book is open in front of her but she reads nothing,

In these moments she just focuses on her breathing,

Just breathe, just breathe,

Nothing else matters right now, nothing else will make sense anyway,

She sits there for a while, just breathing,

And then she realizes at that instant, very slowly, that the future of them at the moment,

Is in what she says or does next,

A wise person once said,

"When you really like someone,

It's better to have them as a friend rather than convincing them to date you",

She closes her eyes, she needs her friend, she's going to fight for her friend,

She goes back to her phone,

And texts him back that it's alright, that she'd like him to stay as a friend,

And if that’s the maximum he’s willing to give her at this moment,

She'll take it anyway,

Because the beauty of life at the end of the day,

Can only be experienced with people who stayed anyway.
